What should I do?

I've been using Norton Internet Security for the last 5 years or so, and it has gone from one of the best, to one of the worst.

My subscription is comming up in a few months, and I dont want to buy NIS again, as I am not happy with it.

My question is, do I even need a Internet Security bundle? Cost isnt a problem, I just need to know what is best. I have a wireless router (2 of 3 computers are wired though) which has a firewall, I believe. The router is a Netgear WPN824.

My dad also has a computer at his work, which does NOT have a router. I need to keep his computer secure as well.

So, do I need a Internet Security bundle? If so, which one would you all recommend? If I dont, what anti-virus program should I buy? What is my best option to keep 3 computers on a router, and 1 computer not on a router safe, and free of viruses/intrusions.

Like I say, cost does not matter, anything up to around $110, or free. Whatever is the best security.

Is AVG or Avast better than Norton, ZoneAlarm or McAfee? I am not opposed to pay money for a better antivirus or firewall program. :P

I have spysweeper for spyware.

well I think that if you want to pay money go with NIS (Norton Internet Security) When I had it it was great but I couldn't aford the yearly subscriptions:(
 
I have used Norton and AVG, and i think AVG does a better job, and its free
(picked up a virus Norton didn't)

I highly recomend that you get Zonealarm Security suite if Cost isnt a issue.

Download a trial version of it.

I use it and its very good imo.

I surf and participate in many forums and i will tell you this- Malware is getting Nasty. By this i mean the ability to really mess up your system, even leave it unbootable. The problem is the main strength of an Antivirus is it's definition database and updating frequency. For detection and updating, you can't beat Kaspersky. But this way of protection is 'Re-active', meaning the malware creators are always one step ahead. That's why many of us have added a 'Pro-active' approach also. Some freebies, others paid. Firewalls are also in the thread.

If you must use a Suite, i would look no farther then Kaspersky or BitDefender. Both offer trials. I would instead recommend the setup below which combines freebies and allows your money to be spent on 'Pro-active' programs.

Comodo or Jetico Firewall
Winpatrol
System Safety Monitor
Sandboxie or BufferZone

Use your money now to purchase the following.
