What should I do?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on this computer:

Pentium 4 2.8GHz
2GB 533 MHz DDR2
80 GB 7200 RPM 8 MB Cache HD
MSI 7600GT
X-FI XtremeMusic
Hipro 600 Watt powersupply

On this computer Vista has been running slow off and on some days it works fine other days it is slow as hell like it takes awhile for things to respond and things lock up a lot. Vista is using 60% of my 2GB of ram and it is still slow.

When I play CSS on this computer in XP I could play it maxed out at 1680x1050 and get between 50-75 FPS. In vista I have to play it on low at 1280x800 and I can barely get over 20 does anyone know why?

Now I like Vista but it is too much of a resource hog should I just go back to xp or are these problems fixable?

Any help is appreciated.

Do you have a fast IDE channel? I know that there is a feature in Vista called the system restore I think that tries to log everything you do so you can revert back later. Disable the system restore and try, I got that same problem before.

how much free hard drive space do you have? Vista wants 30 gigs free for virtual memory or whatever it does to cache things. Do you have that much free space?

I have no idea where to find that in Vista.

Yes I have 34 gigs free.

Does anybody know why I cant play css maxed out like I could on xp and it happens with some other games to. Is there any way to fix it or should i just go back to xp.

go back to xp, it could be many problems from shoddy driver support to incompatibility with something on your system causing the OS to be more resource hungry.
