What should I get?

I finally decided to upgrade my system to something more decent. A friend suggested that I get an Athlon 64 on a socket 939 board since the AM2 is taking its place and the prices are dropping but I'm not completely convinced yet. What do you think I should buy that would be cheap and relatively decent?

Socket 939 isn't bad to go for, they are insanely cheap now and so are the mobos, they run everything fine and they support PC3200 DDR ram which is decent right now.AM2 is a possibility too,but its nothing purely needed, you just get the oppurtunity to advance to DDR2 ram

I was in the same shoes about two months ago and I went with AM2. Its my first build so i wanted to be able to upgrade down the road.

As has been repeated over and over again ad infinitum, the C2D smokes it for the same or less money, so personally I wouldn't touch an AMD right now. It's up to you though.

Sir kenins right, you can get the cheapest c2d for 200 bucks,a dn you dont have to spend alot on a motherboard either, it woudl give u a huge performance increae if you used the same budget for both builds.
