What should I upgrade to?

So, recently it has come to my attention that my processor lacks strength. Can anyone help in finding a processor for me that will be reasonable and include a large difference in strength compared to mine?

My specs:

OS:Vista 64 bit
Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Video Card: Radeon HD 5770
RAM:6142MB DDR2

please do give better specs, we need to know what your actual PC is, i.e. which HP pavillion is it, also what is the socket for the processor. otherwise we could recommend a processor that would not fit with your motherboard. it could also be the case that you will not be able to change the processor on your computer, but i am sure that you can!

You would need to upgrade to a Q9550 or a Q9650 for a big jump in power. A rough estimate would be about 45% faster for the 9550 and 53% with the 9650, (using PassMark CPU Mark as a measure).

Your BIOS Ver. 5.17 dated 1/08 may or may not support a processor upgrade. You might need to flash the BIOS if a later version is available or confirm what processors are supported by Ver. 5.17 before buying a processor.
