What should my temp. readings be?

I am running a quad core Q6600 and the cpu temp is consistently 48-53c. I am wondering if this may be a little high and I should re-adjust the heatsink. Although I talked to someone who told me that these temperatures are normal for this processor.

I am very worried about overheating my system and I was wondering if there is a better heatsink/fan that I might want to invest in for my newly built pc.

Any help is appreciated, and BTW I don't plan on overclocking. thanks!

that doesnt seem normal. ive heard that the q6600 runs very cool. it would have to be for people overclock it as high as they do. are you overclocking it at all? are you using the stock heatsink? and finally what kind of case cooling do you have?

200 posts, w00t!

Yea thats kinda warm even using a stock cooler. As long as you installed it right. Like said above what kind of airflow does your case have?

well thats very strange. your temps should be way cooler. did you apply the thermal compound correctly? you should make sure that the heatsink is making good contact with the processor.

I just finished re-applying everything. I cleaned heatsink and put thermal grease back on. I am about to fire it up so hopefully it will be lower now.

you should let the thermal grease set for a while so i makes better contact. how much thermal grease did you use? too much would actually act as an insulator

I used about a millimeter of thermal grease.

it's still running at 48-50 in bios on boot.

maybe this is just normal???

My readings from speedfan are:

System: 36c
CPU: 42c
AUX: 25c
Core 0: 31c
Core 1: 35c
Core 2: 27c
Core 3: 28c

Vcore: 1.18V
+12V: 12.14
AVcc: 3.30V

I don't know how reliable this program is, and if these numbers are going to tell you all anything new/different that can guide me in the right direction. Although it looks like my system may have been giving me false alarm of how hot it actually was?
