What speed RAM can I use?

Thank you so much for pointing out that it only supports dual channel. I would have bought this like a moron. I need a mb that supports tri-channel and sli and also has usb 3.0 ports. This is going to be a pretty high end gaming compute and he wants it kind of future proof. Are there any motherboards you recommend that meet these requirements?

What cpu are you using? There are 3 different sockets for the i7 (which I am assuming that you are going with) if you do not know what you are using I would recommend the i7 2600K. it is the best of the 17s IMHO. I'll be back in a little while to get you a recommendation on the board.

Thats exactly what cpu I planned on getting. So what do you think is a good 1155 board that meets these requirements? Thanks a lot for your help

Well I think that the Gigabyte board would be a great fit then.

With the RAM I would go with a good set of 1600MHz CAS 7 DDR3. You won't really notice a difference with a higher clocked set unless you are benchmarking and even then it is minimal.

Here is some RAM that will work in your system.
4gb

You want 1.5v RAM for Sandybridge boards. I had to sell my Crucial Ballistix 1.65v RAM when I moved to Sandybridge.

As a rule of thumb, the voltage of the RAM should be within 0.5v of the voltage of the CPU.

Also you will not see any benefit from running your RAM higher than 1600Mhz. It will literally make no difference.

Thanks for letting me know. Why is that though?

That memory isn't really what I'm looking for. I want to run tri-channel, not dual. Any recommendations? Thanks

There is no motherboard for the 1155 socket will run in triple channel. Triple channel is only on the 1366 motherboards. Dual channel will not limit your system at all. I would highly recommend a 2600K with dual channel over an i7 950 with triple channel.

Why wouldn't it make any difference and why do people buy it if it makes no difference? Marketing gimmick?

Would these be ok?

And which of the two would be better?

Or would it be better to get this because it has a lower cas latency? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231431
It runs at 1.6 volts, though, and Spesh was saying it should be 1.5 volts if I'm going to be running Sandy Bridge.

id go with t e 2nd option, just cause it saves some money. the lower the cas, the better, but the more it costs, and for real world difference, its just not there
