What SSD to get?

What would your choice be?

well im intel all the way, i put up a thread a week back and no one could come up with a ssd that had the same (roughly) space and faster random read speeds....

even though a ssd boasts large figures in read/write speeds they cant compete with the drives that have higher random read/write speeds as that is the majour factor

what i look at is, do you write large capacity files to your c drive all the time? prob not!! if your like me you will install drivers or games then after that its the loading time that matters

i would sacrifice a few min extra installing stuff to get a few extra seconds quicker loading time-obviously if i could get a 80gig ssd with the same read time but better write time at the same price then i would buy that

i have owned 3 ssd's up to now, i have had a kingston 64gig wich boasted high numbers but when benched it couldnt touch the intel x-25m and i witnessed 1st hand the bootup speed difference and general pc activity

i know ocz knock out some good ssd's but my money is on intel

would also like to point out that i have used 45gig of my ssd with windows installed and 2 games and all the usual stuff drivers etc etc, i have a 500gig with all my music etc on so personaly i couldnt have a 60gig as it would be at its limits

Haha only for SSDs. Jmicron made the first SATAII SSD controllers. They didn't include enough cache on the controller and drives that used it were plagued with stutter issues.

I voted for Vertex, OCZ SSDs all the way!
Actually Jmicron controllers on motherboards are relatively rubbish as well, especially the onboard raid controllers(especially if you compare them to an ICH9R or ICH10R).
Right okay its between these two now then.

OCZ Agility 2 50GB 2.5" SATAII Solid Series Solid State Drive 10K IOPS
http://www.ocztechnology.com/produc...te-drives/ocz-agility-2-sata-ii-2-5--ssd.html

And

OCZ Vertex Series 60GB
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid_state_drives/ocz_vertex_series_sata_ii_2_5-ssd

They both have good and bad points,The Agility is faster...but £10 more and 10Gb less capacity.

The Vertex write speeds are slower,But has 10Gb more space and is £10 cheaper :D

Atm im leaning towards the Vertex....From its specs it looks like an amazing drive!,Im not 100% sure but i think its faster than the Intel X-25 80Gb too :)

Real world the agility is pretty much identical with the vertex.

the ocz vertex according to passmark hard drive benchtable doesnt beat the x-25m g1 which is the older revision...

they dont have the benchmark for the intel x-25m SSDSA2MH080G2C1 which is supposed to be an improvemt over the g1

Funky ive just this min sent u a PM reguarding the G1 and G2 versions of the Intel X25-M...i cant find the G2 version anywhere, not sure if the one on ebuyer is the first gen or not.

most of the intel x-25m are indeed g2 you just need to look on the end of the model number g2c1 g1c1

gen 1- SSDSA2MH080G1GC
gen 2- SSDSA2M080G2GC

There's a good article in Maximum PC May issue that gives some good info on all the drives in your poll. Check it out!

Well i was going to get the 80Gb intel G2,BUT now ebuyer has put it up in price from £169 to £195...forget that!

Il just wait until i build a whole new rig and get on then.
