What Temperature Is Dangerous For Most Processors?

I am curious at how high the temperature on most processors can get before damage may start occuring. In BIOS I set my processor to shut off if it gets 70 degrees celsius or higher. At what tempreture is the danger zone where damage may start occuring for most processors?

It depends on the processor. I'm not positive on the Athlon 64's, but I know with the Core 2 Duo's 70C is really the highest you want to get it. They can still run well at 70C, however I believe once it hits 75C-80C it will shutdown before causing any problems.

yeah depend on the cpu, the old Prescotts used to run well high but 70* on a c2d would be a danger sign

do you have any idea how many cpus have been made in the last 6 year!!!! even if you just look at core makeup there are dozens

Thanks for link -0MEGA-. Temperatures do vary with different processors, but it seems that for most modern processors 60 degrees celsius or higher starts becoming a danger zone.

My processor generally stays between 29 to 34 degrees celsius. The highest recorded temperature Core Temp has recorded with my processor is 41 degrees celsius.

mine at idle

(this look ok for idle temps)? not trying to jack thread. usually gpu hits 56c alt load cpu 44c

According to the specifications I looked up on the AMD Athlon X 2 5600, the maximum temperature your processor can handle is 71 degrees celsius.

My guess on why your temperatures on differ with your dual core idling is one part of your processor is running your operating system and the other part is idle. I believe Windows XP 32-bit is not threaded (made to optimally run with a dual core processor).

Wow according to that link [-0MEGA-] posted my old (T-bred/Barton core) Sempron can go up to 90c:eek:

it doesnt usualy go over 55 on load though:)

had my c2d in the laptop on my sig at 83c without any shut offs. Damb fan controller frooze leaving fans at idle while gaming, great huh!
