i recently purchased an MSI k8n neo4 mobo for socket 939, upon arrival i noticed it has a big metal....thing...on the backside of the motherboard, whats this for? what do i do with it?

well i cant take a pic of it now, i already put the mobo in, unless i pull it back out, its right behing the CPU, and seems to be held in place by two screws the go all the way through the mobo and up into the heatsink mounting bracket...

no i know where the heatsink attaches, what im trying to say is that its on the bottom side of the motherboard....i think its just some sort of support plate from what it shows in the manual, but id never seen anything like that....thats what im sayin it is then, a lovely heatsink/cpu support bracket of some sort

and thats similar to my motherboard, mine is not the platinum edition though, it doesnt have firewire and a few other features, but its pretty much the same as the platinum

It could be something similar to Asus' stackcool where they put a passive heatsink that is nearly flat (its got some small fins around the edges) on the bottom of the board

If i understand you correctly thats just the brace .... to prevent the board from buckling :) I take you mean this:

There are some instances where you can prolly get away with not having it installed but you'll want to use your motherboard in a dekstop configuration :)
