Crappy reused optical drive not sure if it will have any effect, however i will be getting a 40 dollar rebate back on all the components as well. Just was wondering what you would upgrade to next and if you could post links also how did i do for a 400 dollar budget?

I see a few problems. The motherboard and RAM are from lower-quality manufacturers, and the GPU us ancient...you could have gotten MUCH better for the price. It only supports DirectX 9...we're on 11 now. It's also a Dell, which typically means it has crappy parts, and is about 4 years old. Don't be surprised if it dies on you.

Performance-wise, though, it's pretty balanced.


edit: Just noticed, your hard drive is a 7200.11 model...those had issues. There's a reason they're so cheap :/

Okay well the benchmarks dont lie on the graphics card plus i dont even play any new games like crysis or etc. So I was on an extremely tight budget, I had to buy a monitor plus a mouse, as well as all the rest of the components. The best videocard that i could budget in other than the x1950pro is the 4670 and the only difference is that it is about the same exact speed yet it costs 20 dollars more.

What benchmarks are you looking at, exactly? And how much did you pay for it?

It's alright as far as power goes, but some newer games require DirectX 10...you won't be able to play them, should you ever be so inclined. And like I said, it's a 4-year-old Dell, so it may not have too long to live.

I gotcha i apologize thank you for the input i just selectively read a certain part of that your right on that. I really should not have bought a dell version lol considering its probably been run a 300watt power supply for four years =[.
 
Indeed, haha. For ~$60 used, you probably could have landed a significantly more powerful card from a respected manufacturer. A Radeon 3850 or 3870 would have been good...they're more powerful, old enough to have low prices, and new enough to support DirectX 10.1. A 4750 or 4770 would be even better...

All-in-all, though, provided everything stays working properly, it'll be a well-balanced machine.

Could definitely be worse, though.

Thanks man yeah the 3850 was just 15 dollars out of my budget and i just lost my job so it was either not have a mouse or get the other card. Considering my luck within a week the machine will most likely catch on fire.

Well, the good thing about this is, the parts are all using current-spec interfaces...DDR3, PCIe, and socket AM3 are still in use. You'll be able to upgrade that rig for a while.

I know the feeling, man. College taught me how to live on about $10 a week. Fairly comfortably, I might add...Kroger and dollar stores are your friend.

edit: And the clearance section in the bakery...can't forget that. There's always something good for really cheap.

Oh yes indeed i hear you there, ramen is also a good friend. I love how they label the isle with the ramen in it the foreign foods cuisine section.
 
Indeed, Ramen is a dear friend in hard rimes.

Don't eat too much of it though...it's terrible for you. Basically just fried white flour, a buttload of salt, and some spices. :(

Well you get the discount savings when you buy in the package of twenty, lol we changed the computer forum in to the unemployed food forums lol. =] Btw what do you think i could get another stick of the 1600mhz brand possibly just get the ripjaws 1600mhz 4gbs instead. a 5770, and a phenom quad core with 3.2ghz or 3.4ghz, then upgrade the a 20+ inch monitor in that order?
 
That'd be pushing your PSU, but I think you could manage it, yeah.

As far as the RAM goes, I don't think there will be a problem with adding another stick from a different brand, but make sure it's the same spec. Anything faster than your current RAM will have to slow down to match it.

edit: You'd have to upgrade your OS, though...32 bit operating systems can only recognize ~3GB or RAM. Anything more and you need 64 bit.
