What to do with ADSL

I'm (supposedly) getting my ADSL (2 Mbit) connection tomorrow, so I'll probably fail all exams next week.

Now, except for updating drivers and such, what programs should I have? Like what firewall, antivirus, browser and other funny programs one might need?

Hey

Definitely get the stuff suggested above. For the firewall, I would recommend SYGATE PERSONAL FIREWALL which is free and works very well for me. You may want to use a download manager but I doubt its effeciveness. As for the browser, I would suggest you to try Firefox, Opera and Avant (IE6 Extension). They are all very nice and you could choose which one suits you best. You will FAIL all your exams for sure. The internet, especially with ADSL can be a very very addictive place. Believe me...I know what I am saying.

I'll take your word for it. ;)

Got an url for the firewall? Sygate.com, I presume?

I don't doubt it's good, but it kind of kept asking me if I wanted to allow stuff ALL THE TIME. And I don't know what I want to allow. >_<

I see...

i suggest you to use mozila firefox for internet browsing and if u r using winXP you don't need personal firewall coz WinXP has personal firewall in it.

Well, I give a vote for the Sygate Personal Firewall. To be frank, I hate all Microsoft related software, they are unstable, non reliable and full of security holes. Why should you want to work with the Microsoft Firewall of the Win XP although we all know that Win XP itself is a security disaster ??

Mcafee pro Antivirus is a combo, it has one of the best anti virus programs in the market and comes with a firewall as well. I have been using it for a while, but lately I experienced some problems in the updates as I am using a dial up connection, that's why I am considering to go back to the Sygate Firewall.

Thanks,
