what to do with my coins?

ok, fun poll time :)

i have a 35 oz jar, half full of change that i've been saving this past year. the purpose of these savings is for gaming related purchases and i estimate it to be at least $100, maybe even $125 or more. the plan was to get a amazon gift card from the coinstar machine at no charge.

but lately, steam has been coming out with lots of good game deals, cheaper than amazon, and it might be better to change it to cash, put it in the bank, and use paypal to buy from steam. however, the fee for cash is about 9%.

so, what do you think i should do?
you think i should i pay the 9% for cash and wait around for game deals from steam, or get the amazon credits and buy as much as i can at once?

either way, i need my gaming fix. games i really want, in no particular order:
crysis :gun:
stalker, clear sky
nfs shift
fallout 3 :good:
world in conflict
left 4 dead
far cry 2
gears of war :gun:
 
Get a bunch of coin wrappers--spend an afternoon rolling them up and go to the bank and get it changed into bills!! Then decide what you wanna do.

Getting coin wraps and exchanging them at a bank you deal with normally should both be free! It's free here, so long as you normally bank with that institution!!

Once you have cash then you know better what you got to work with and can buy something cool!!
 
The 9% fee is from Coinstar, not the bank. This isn't all that surprising, they want to encourage you to get the gift cards, as they see a portion of the value of that card in a payoff from the company you get the card from.

Couple of things to consider for me:
Do you get free shipping from Amazon? Because you basically get free shipping from Steam.
How much of a difference in the price of the games are we talking? (Is it enough to offset the approximate $10 cost?)

I would probably go with Steam just because the difference in the two items above should more than make up for the lost value by converting it to cash. (However you can spend the $2.50 on a bag of coin wrappers and save yourself $7.50 when you go to deposit it at the bank, as was said above.)
 
My bank has a coin sorter and doesn't take a %. Worst case you will have to drive to a bank that has it (mine is downtown branch)

Personally id save it because you wouldn't be asking here if you had something in mind :P

I know about CoinStar's rates... that's why I do my coin exchanging at the bank where they don't charge (if you put it into your account). THen you just withdraw.
 
the 9% is from coinstar to get cash. my bank told me they don't sort coins, which i think is bull.
i used to wrap coins, it's a real pain so i would rather use coinstar.
some items at amazon ship free, but take a while. and they have different vendors to choose from.
steam doesn't always have cheaper prices either, e.g.
fallout 3 is 50 at steam, and 47 at amazon.
WiC is 20/steam, 20/amazon with soviet assault, thats extra 20 from steam.
i guess i can save more with amazon, but will have to wait longer.
bummer dudes.
 
I say invest in a coin sorter and start rolling them suckers up!!

My dad has a huge jar (atleast 100lbs) worth of silver!! We started counting the quarters and got to $800 and said screw it.
 
Rolling coins isn't very hard...wow.

Just go to the bank and ask for them, unless US banks are really stingy they should give them to you.

9cents on every dollar is an outrageous ripoff!! Stop being so lazy and roll em and keep you dough!

Worst case scenario is you go to a dollar store and buy a bag of those rolls that are already formed,,you just put in the proper amount based on the denomination and fold the tops.

Go to the bank and say, cash these please!!

DONT get ripped off by a machine cause you are lazy!!! what a bloody waste!!!!!
 
^^ Yup I just go to the bank every month or so and get more coin wrappers. I then just purchase stuff with the wrapped coins. Usually quarters and dime roll's. Some people dont like it but, tough. Money is money

I would do the coinstar thing too. I HATE rolling money, my dad used to make me and my brothers do it all the time, mounds of change!

I say get your card, go to amazon, get your games. Less time smelling like copper and fountain water (duh, change!)

I'd skip on Fallout 3 though, just gray tone terrain and so much empty space on the map. Far Cry 2 was really fun, right up until the ending. Gag, the ending was TERRIBLE! Crysis and Fallout 3 are too demanding of time (imo), gears of war was just awful (#2 was even worse),

But,
L4D & Shift <==Yeah to both!

BTW, i went to the coinstar machine today and i now have an amazon gc worth $187 !!1

time to go shopping!! :D :) :gun::eek:
 
Get a Absopure water botter bottle (5 gal).
Dump your change in it for 5 yrs.
You will have a wodd of money.

+1, I always roll my change up and then take it into the bank to have then switch it to cash, easiest way to do it.
 
Cash is King in my opinion.

Unless you have something specifically you planned to buy from Amazon in the near future that would use that full amount.
 
I have a pint glass in my room I use for change and a pint holds 16oz. When I fill it up with mixed change it yields about $35ish dollars or so. I take it to my bank down the street which charges me nothing to deposit it or cash it out.

I'd save the money and hang on to it.
