What to do

I have a extra desktop, dell to be exact, laying around that hasn't been in use for a long time. I was thinking about holding on to it so when I move out next year I can use that as well as my laptop. But since it hasnt been in use for awhile and its a couple years old I know some parts of it is old and probably slower. So I was wondering if you guys think I should just buy some replacements parts off newegg and put them in there to make it fast and better or can that not be done?

Depends on the specs of your Dell...

might be a matter of..is it really worth it...or it is worth it..

..tell us model and/or info and we can assist.

more than likely it is upgradeable but I wouldn't recommend it. Often just building a new comp yields better results since new parts are often cheaper than old parts (RAM is a good example of that).

On most Dell desktops, there's usually a sticker on the back with the model number/name and serial number. On some of the newer ones, (under 2 years, I think), they started putting the model numbers on the top at the front of the case. I don't know if this is the case, but it's worth a look. If not, then you could try looking for a reciept, or something with similar specifications and case.

Can't find anything except articles on viruses at the Dell site, or any specs anywhere else for that matter. If the computer runs, you could download PC Wizard (just have a look on Google), and it should tell you what CPU, RAM, HDD, Motherboard, Video card and stuff that your computer has.

Sorry for the extra hassle - if anyone else can find anything on the MTC2, please post it back here. Specs information greatly appreciated.

I think thats his service tag...

Might be, but whatever it is - the Dell site doesn't list anything about it. If you could, go into Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. It might tell you what computer you have there. My Inspiron 530S E4700 does anyway. Might be worth a try.

Sorry for double post, edit kept redirecting to random page.

If that is your model number, and the Dell site doesn't list it, then it's probably too old to even think of upgrading. Sorry for the bad news, but it's quite probable.
