I just finished putting my computer together and want to know of some programs I could use to check the heat of my CPU and other things?

Just to double check that everything is going all right.

Im only curious because my video card is warm to the touch

Ok well for some reason I dont have paint ><

Anyone know of a good paint subsitute?

Or a way to get paint?

I downloaded GIMP and dont like it. I already have photoshop heh.

Ya they are idle temps. Im using a uhh shit forgot the name but no its not stock Ximaltek something or another. I forgot to apply the thermal paste tho. Is it worth it going in and taking it all apart to put some on? I have some Artic Silver 5.

Also with these temps could I possibly overclock at all?

I dont really have any need to I love the way my computer runs, was stuck on my laptop before this. Cant beat a desktops power heh. Lenovo Thinkpad T61 was the laptop.

Im planning on purchasing a Antec 900 when I get the cash currently all my spare money is going towards a ticket I got...

My computer has been on all night if that has anything to do with it. My room is basic average temperature probably like 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Looks like you need better case flow, unless your ambient is 100 degrees F. 45c for a case temp is hot, sounds like stagnent air flow.

Yes, putting thermal paste on helps a lot.
Do you know how to apply thermal paste? Theres a certain way to do it, if you put too much on it, it will actually make your temps worse.

Would I be able to run it like this for about two weeks? Then I should have my new case.

No it was my first time I put about a rice sized peice from what I heard and spread it around but It didnt cover it so i put some more on and spread it around with the back of my mens wearhouse card.

just watch ur temps. thermal paste is very important, you can get arctic silver 5 at radio shack if you dont feel like waiting for it to get shipped.

What case do you have? like mentioned it coul be poor air circulation....but that cpu temp seems very high for Idle,You might want to clean off the old thermal paste and apply for AS5....Ive found that actualy spreading my thermal paste myself evenly over the cpu gives me better temps on my q6600 rather than just letting the heatsink spread it.

I dont know the name of the case it was given to me like 3 years ago.

The ones in red are these Silenx fans I got thinking they were "better" because there silent. No.. They push about half the air of my LED fan on the side. But that is my airflow. The one on top is sitting above a hole.. My PSU sticks out past the hole that I modded into the top. Another reason to purchase a new case. Its just not in the budget at the moment.

I guess I will try re applying that thermal paste tommorrow. I just did it really quickly because I didnt want to remove my motherboard but I guess it might be necessary.

Oh there is also a fan above my CD drive inside the case kind of just pointed down towards the CPU I just stuck that in there to try to lower temps.

I hope that is the way they blow air, I find it hard to determine which way they blow air without turning the case on.

Here is a picture of my guts, I took this before putting it into my case, thats my CPU fan. Should I look into getting a new one? I dont really know the quality of that one.

I was also thinking of getting one of those things that you stick inbetween your Video Card etc. Would that help at all?

Like this

Well there doesn't seem to be any problem with case ventilation, if the fans are blowing the way they are shown.

But I think your CPU cooler has the fan blowing the wrong way. Is it reversable? The hot air should blow out toward the back, it appears like you have it so it blows the opposite way that your case fans are trying to direct the air....front to back, with your CPU cooler trying to push air back to front, that just doesn't work and is likely the cause of your problem. Could also be thermal paste, but lets get the airflow correct for now and see what happens.

Yes after turning the cooler the other way and adding some thermal past your temps should be good.
