I have XP windows. Would like to upgrade to 8.1. I want to save everything, then transfer to the new 8.1. What to do?

My system is:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2i002
Service Pack 3

Intel (R) CPU 2.20Ghz
2.19 GHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

Thanks

Gonna need an exact list of specs. I wouldn't try running 8 on that if its an old machine. You don't have enough memory for one. Can you give us a make and model of computer if its store bought or model of motherboard if its a custom build?

That Computer won't run windows 8.1...Your only choice would be Windows 8 consumer Preview...

If you could please specify your computer specs, we can tell you if your computer would be able to handle the data. By what you've told us so far, it doesn't seem likely, but in all honesty, we don't know, until you tell us.:)

You don't need a new computer -- you need a completely new Operating System. Like a GNU/Linux distribution (simply a variation of the GNU/Linux OS).

Ubuntu won't run with your specs, so ignore anyone who says it will. Lubuntu will, but only the LTS (Long Term Support) version 12.04 due to the fact that now ubuntu won't support older hardware. It will run marginally, though.
I myself am a performance freak. And I'd say go with MX-14. It's one of the prettiest and best-performing linux distros out just now. Support at their or the antiX forums is superior, as well!

Best wishes!
