What to look for in Monitors / and why?

Besides monitor size - and LCD vs CRT - and standard vs Wide Screen monitor -

What else should be considered and why?

This Acer monitor is 21.5 " with speakers, 1080 HD screen and it's only 169 - while other similar sized monitors can sell for 300 bucks.

not sure, but read the reviews, see what others are saying.

also note, 1080p hd res is primarily for watching movies (hence the speakers) in high def (16:9). more common PC resolutions are 16:10. i wouldn't trust any built-in speakers though, prefer to have an amplifier.

also some of those 300+ monitors have 'gaming' refresh rates (120hz now) which would eliminate tearing at high fps; compare this to 'tv' monitors (60hz), remember movies are filmed at 24fps.

although this does look like a good deal, i usually don't buy anything from newegg with less than 85% excellent reviews. just mho.

I have that monitor and love it.It could be better on games but it is very very nice.

Same price, 19 inch wide screen. Doesn't have built-in speakers, but this monitor is cheap and great for games. I've been using it for about a year.

Look for HIGH contrast ratio (1,000+:1), & Low response time (less than 5 milliseconds), anything less will strain your eyes.
