Im just wondering what is holding back my system.

At the moment im looking at upgrading either my CPU or GPU but not sure what holding my system back.

My system plays most games on highest setting, but only around 30-40fps.

Do I upgrade the graphics card or go down the SLi route or start looking at a new motherboard and an i5 ... Im sure the gtx560ti has alot left to offer? i could be wrong

My current spec is

AMD X4 960T 3.4GHz
Nvidia Asus GTX560 Ti Direct CU2 TOP 950mhz
4gb DDR3 Ram
1tb HDD

any input would be great.

Is your pc Prebuilt? You could try to oc your cpu a bit to see how much it improves performance.
Anyway it's not the gpu who is holding you back, the gtx560 ti should handle most games on max.
Maybe look into an i5 or a vishera FX6300/8320 and get 4 more ram (ram is not the problem, but it can improve your performance a bit.)
What motherboard do you have?

And the most important question, what resolution do you play?

What resolution are you playing at? If it's higher than about 1080p, then the 1GB of RAM on your 560 Ti will be holding you back most likely.

My current motherboard is Asus M5A99X EVO AM3+. I run all of my games at 1080p. I can play AC3 on max, Crysis 2 on max with some slow downs.

I know I need another 4gb RAM which always helps.

As for my cpu, Normally overclock it to 3.7GHz when gaming.... I just wanted some more FPS so I dont noticed the slow down in heavy firefights etc or when alot is going on

I reckon your 560 Ti should be all right for 1080p. Have you tried updating the drivers?

Lucky you got a AM3+, you can easily upgrade to a vishera without buying a new mobo. As for gpu, I think it should handle it with no stutter on max...
Maybe try oc'ing your gpu a bit to see if that helps?
In what games are you having stutter, fps drops?
Also try updating your drivers.

I cant say it ever drops to the point where I can really notice it. Its more me taking an note of what FRAPs tell me during gameplay.

Ive just not upgrading nothing for a year so thought it maybe time.

I hear the new AMD cpu aint really that great. From the reviews Ive seen cant see much of a boost over current CPU. Im not really up on my tech knowhow mind you.

As for overclocking my GPU. The asus 560ti top already comes overclocked to 900mhz to which ive added another 50mhz ontop of that which is the most stable I could find

Smileman. yes Its a self build system

also as for RAM ,ive got 2x2gb stick of XMS3 but is it worth replacing with this http://www.dabs.com/products/corsai...600mhz-dimm-240-pin-cl9-1-65v-75H5.html?src=7

2x4gb sticks? not sure what combo is better?

FRAPS can affect your fps a little.
But why are you complaining without stutter lol?
The new visheras are actually a pretty good improvement in terms of gaming AND rest.
It overclocks much better (easy to hit 4.6ghz with your mobo) and are pretty cheap.
The FX6300 is about the same as the fx8320 in games, the 8320 is better overall.

Comparison vishera vs phenom II (your cpu should be a bit slower then a 965 though)http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=698

You can still do what you want and get an i5, and pay 100 dollars for a new mobo. But I think that's a bit waste of money.
There are many people just saying amd sucks, but if you're looking to real reviews the new visheras are pretty ok.
Do what you think is best, I gave my opinion.

That RAM should be ok, I would replace it because ram is pretty cheap these times.
RipsjawsX series from G. Skill are also very good and cheap.
