What type of design software should I use?

As you may guess by my screen name, I use the modeling software called Unigraphics. However, my father is looking for a program that he could load on his computer for selling a product. He sells cemetary monuments to customers who look through a large booklet and choose size, shape, color, graphics, etc. What software out there would allow me to create a template of the finished product and show a good quality representation on the screen? Or am I getting in over my head here? See, in Unigraphics, I can create a template of a model, change parameters and everything updates. I would want a simpler program for my father. Thank you.

Hello Marcin,

What I am looking for as an end result is this:
1) The user (my father) opens up a program when he is selling a monument.
2) When the program is open, there will be say 6 different shapes of monuments he can choose from.
3) After clicking on a picture of one of these 6 shapes, it takes you to another screen.
4) From here, he can select from a group of designs and pick which one the customer likes.
5) Either on a different screen or not, he can then choose what style of granite the customer would like.
6) Then he can type in the birthday, date of death, person(s) name, etc.
7) Finally, he can select the size of the monument.
8) The final result is a picture of a monument on the screen as the finished product.
I hope this helps a bit. Thank you.

Unless someone else in the gravestone industry has such a software they would be willing to sell, you will most likely need to have it specially designed for your purpose.

Most commonly, you would see a program like this made in Adobe Flash.

The good news is once it's made, you can put it up on the company website, and potential clients can play with it from their home while they're reading about your services. Then your father would also be able to load it from the website, and when he is with a client, help them select a gravestone.

The bad news is that to have this program created in Flash will probably cost you from between $600 to $1200.

Thanks for the reply Marcin,

Are you saying that the software cost that much, or to have somebody else create it would cost that much? I am trying to find out more about Adobe, but so far all I found was Adobe Flash Player. Sounds like I need an Adobe Flash Writer (or something). I like the idea of having it on the internet, but he would prefer that it was loaded on his laptop, in case of when he is at the customers house and they do not have internet access. Perhaps having both would be the way to go. Thanks again!

Adobe Flash is the program for creating interactive media. You would need a designer who is familiar with creating applications in Flash to create an application for you for the purpose you need. The designer would create the application for you, and then they would export it, and then you would view it in an internet browser. You would either load it from your website, or you can carry it around on a laptop, and load it from the laptop.

The part that costs $600 to $1200 is finding an application designer/programmer to create the gravestone selector application for you.
