What Type of Moniter is the Best For Digital PhotoGraphy?

Hi, I'm a professional Photographer and when looking at pictures i rely on a very good moniter, but at the moment i'm using a 17inch Dell LCD display moniter, and every 3 months i have to calibrate it with Colour vision Spyder Pro 2, but does anyone know any Very good LCD screens i could buy and i don't have to calibrate for Digital PhotoGraphy.

Thanks

Meng :confused:

Well, I know it's not an LCD screen, but if you are looking for absolutle precision, you should use a CRT monitor. Bulky and heavy they are, but you get true colour from a CRT monitor. I think I read that LCD screen aren't good at producing black, and dark blue or something like that (don't quote me on it ;)).

Rambo, you're very close :) LCD monitors have greater contrast, the difference between white and black. Blacks on an LCD are actually a very dark grey. The color range is also more accurate on a CRT. Most graphics pros use CRTs.

I thought these were decent...

To be honest, what type of photography do you do. Will you be printing a lot of photo's, in which case, you should be more concerned with the printer than the screen because no matter how nice it looks doesn't mean it will print that way.

And I agree with the other people, contrast ratio is important, but brightness can be adjusted. Response time probably isn't really a huge concern considering you are lookign at still photo's.

I don;t know much about photograhpy but chances are if you went to a photography forum they would know better then we would, assuming most of use are just computer nerds.

LCD and CRT are capable of it...

If thats what you meant, otherwise there is no term (true color or true colour) in electronic photography used to describe imaging...

I think he just wants an accurate representation on screen so he knows what it will look like on paper.

Ok, i didn't mean the actual term true colour, I was just using it as a phrase or whatever lol...

Read this:

The primary advantage that CRT monitors held over LCDs was their color rendering. The contrast ratios and depths of colors displayed were much greater with CRT monitors than LCDs. While this still holds true in most cases, many strides have been made in LCDs such that this difference is not as great as it once was. Many graphic designers still use the very expensive large CRT monitors in their work because of the color advantages. Of course, this color ability does degrade over time as the phosphors in the tube break down.

Pros:

* Multisync Capable
* High Refresh Rates
* Color Clarity and Depth

Cons:

* Very Heavy and Large
* Use Large Amounts of Energy
* Generate Excess Heat

That is what I'm trying to say :)

If you're looking for really good quality and especially precission CRT's.. look for Eizo Flexscan monitor's,.. they are truly awesome :)

as for power consumption, my 20" CRT used 126Watt power (and it was from 1991 :) ) the 19" LCD i currently use, consumes 25Watt,.. so there is a significant power usage difference indeed
