1. I noticed you got a DVD-ROM and a DVD Burner, unless there is a specific reason for this, a dvd burner will play DVD's as well so you dont need both.

2. I would seriosuly save up some more cash and upgrade to an AMD X2 3800+. It would be a very good investment for the future.

Yeah, only one dvd drive. Also, I would see if you can get a better PSU. Case PSUs only last a short while, if at all. Aspire makes good but cheapish 500w+ PSUs.

Thx people for the input so far. I looked into the dual core's. There a bit out of my price range. Would i notice a big difference if i did choose to get 1 though??

So if i just buy a dvd burner will it do these things:

Play DVDs
Able to burn films onto DVDs
Able to burn Music onto CD/DVDs
Backup up data by burning onto DVD

Thats what i need it to do

Also in the future i will probably upgrade to dual geforce 7600. What kind of power will i need for that.

1. The 3500+ isnt bad its just that its not dual core. It will be good for current games but as time goes on, the dual core will be much better.

2. A DVD Burner can:
-Play dvd's
-Burn dvds which includeds the thing you listed

Able to burn films onto DVDs
Able to burn Music onto CD/DVDs
Backup up data by burning onto DVD
That really depends on the type of software you have.

3. I agree that a better PSU is in order, case PSU's arent very good. An SLI setup requires a good PSU. A PSU with Dual +12V rails would be ideal.

Post a link please.

yea, that seems good. personally, i'd throw 2gb of ram in it though... especially since windows vista will use at least 400mb of ram right off the bat.
also, will you be playing Quake 4? that game will perform better with dual core and 2gb of ram. sounds like a good setup.
dual core is definitely worth it if you ask me, but youre right, its definitely expensive... especially since the price for processors ultimately doubled for dual core.. and it probably still costs them similar amounts of money to make them... the same amount of gold goes into the processor.
of course, THE TECHNOLOGY!! :)
also, 7900gt is what i'd go with :) lol

so two things i'd change:
2gb of ram, and 7900gt instead of 7600gt. do the ram first if you can afford it, 7600gt should be plenty though.

yall are complaining about having a dual layered burner, and a dvd rom? come on its not that big of a deal...

That way if you want to burn a movie, you dont have to burn an image first, and then burn it to a dvd...

Anyways, everyones obsessed with dual cored...granted I just got a laptop thats dual cored and I love it. But having a 64-bit processor is great to, I wouldnt look down at it in the least...But if you wanted the better processor you could dish out more money for it...it would probably show an improvement, but if you have already bought it, id wait.

But if you ever got the money, I would definately consider getting 2 gigs of ram...or maybe 1 gig of DDR2 ram, but that stuff gets expensive.

I have two drives myself, it is certainly a benefit if you want to do a lot of burning.

The Athlon X2 that everyone's been mentioning is also 64-bit. Unless you're using a 64-bit OS, though, there's really no benefit to it (and the benefits even then are questionable).

or maybe 1 gig of DDR2 ram, but that stuff gets expensive.
AMD based systems cannot use DDR2, at least not until AM2 is released.

The NEC 3550 is a good choice of DVD burner. If you want a second drive to read the discs, in order to copy on the fly, just about anything is fine for that.

Ok so ill need a dvd rw drive and a dvd rom drive. And that will let me do EVERYTHING. But cud i just get the DVD RW drive first and install all my games etc, then wen i get som more money get the dvd rom drives.

Yes of course. You don't need the second drive at all, as you can just create an image first, and then burn that to the DVD. The problem, of course, is that it takes almost twice as long, which can be annoying if you're copying a large number of discs. If you don't intend to, though, you're better off just saving the money.

BTW, if this is for copying double layered DVDs, it will NOT help, as the contents of the disc must be compressed to the HDD first.
