What upgrade should I get to speed up my game?

Hiya!

So heres the situation: The only game I am interested in playing is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas; I get relatevely 10 - 20 FPS. But I want more :P ALL of my settings are the absolute loweset posible, and I play after cleaning up memory ussaage.

Specs:
Intel Celeron 1.8 Ghz CPU
512 MB RAM
60 MB Intel something or other Video Card (I have not upgraded the driver in years, as the driver I did upgrade seems to crash the game *sometimes*)
180 GB HD space
PCI-based mother board

I dont want to get a whole new computer (cant offord it with my freakin job), and dont want to spend too much otherwise.

So what upgrade should I get to speed up my FPS like 10 / 20 frames more per second? More RAM? Upgrade my Video Card (if so, what PCI card should I get?). Also, I heard you can speed up a game by lowering the Audio Acceleration of your video card (will test that when im back home).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i dont know the spec for GTA: san andreas
but you probably need to upgrade your ram to about 1024mb and get a decent video card (at least 128mb, sorry i cant reccomend one...)
 
honestly, you should probably just start with a whole new computer, they aren't that expensive to build or even custom buy from some sites and that is getting so old that it's not going to be too useful in the coming years.
 
ok, here's the situation, 512MB of ram is enough, only things that are slowing you down is the CPU (not that much, i wouldnt worry about it) and the Video card (UPGRADE!!!)

whats your budget, the best one u can get is a GeForce 5700

I actually have 768 MB of RAM (forgot :confused:) -- And the maximun I can install on my PC at the moment is 1024, so im not sure if its worth it :cool:

I agree that a Video Card upgrade is probally my best bet, however, if I'm not mistaken, the GeForce 5700 is AGP based :( My motherboard only has the old PCI slots. It sucks doesn't it? ;)

So what PCI Video Card should I get? Any specific one, or is it a "the more RAM the better!!" deal and not much else counts?

The PS2 version doesn't have a multiplayer modification for it http://Multitheftauto.com -- The main reason I a concerned with speed up San Andreas is because my clan (known on MTA: VC) is going to be switching to San Andreas, and I want to be the general of the Air Force -- which, in order to keep up with the other players in speed, I need the game to run faster.

So yea, PS2 version doesnt cut it :P
 
Just save up for a new computer. You might not have the money now but it will be totally worth it. I had something like the one you have just a few weeks ago. But my new comp is wicked and games are so much better. You are going to end up spending at least 500 dollars on upgrades right? So why not just save up double that and buy a whole up to date system then start building on it.
 
Why don't you try O/Cing your comp? I have a P4 2Ghz cpu, 768MB ram, 64MB video card and all I did was oc my comp. I can still play CS:S and DoD:S with this comp js fine :]
 
I dont know what O/Cing is -- perhaps you can explain?

By the way, I have a P4 processor sitting next to me right now from an old computer I found. It should work. hmnn . . Is there anyway I could use this processor? :rolleyes: I never heard of installing a new "processor" but I couldn't say for sure. Maybe it can be a secondary one.

there is a PCI interfaced version, why would i suggest an AGP card if u have a PCI only mobo?

Maybe now I can win more, as I think my slow game gives me a disatvantage.
