Got thinking about this from a thread on the forums about the x86 architecure.

So what was your first pc?

computer wise i first had a commodore 64 but my first pc was an IBM

Specs:

80286 (think it was about 6mhz)
no extended memory, just 640k base
60mb hard drive
VGA graphics

Loved that machine, big clunky flip switch on the front to turn it on.

Ran Dune2 battle for arrakis beautifully. No such thing as windows then, only good old DOS (god i loved DOS, sooooo much better than windows)!

EDIT :

THAR SHE BLOWS!!

Intel Pentium I (or II dunno) 166 MHz MMX (OC'ed to 200 MHz)
Some motherboard
32 MB RAM
3Dfx Voodoo (1 then upgraded to 2)
1.6 GB HDD 5400rpm
Unknown PSU
14" CRT ADI something I think

I had ZX Specturm and Commodore before that, and some Amiga's too.

Gee mine was an Epson HX-20 notebook with a microcassette drive that proceeded any hard drives in a portable unit. Besides the few prewritten programs that were included you wrote your own! Then there was also that Brother word processor with a floppy drive to eventually run a pair of IBM desktops like the 286 and 386 alike. That Epson came out in 1982. Those were the somewhat good old days if you like "boat anchors". That AST 486 didn't last long when getting into a used AMD K5 equipped custom build!

The first computer my parents got was an Apple IIc. We finally upgraded late 1995 to a Compaq all in one model. P75, 8M RAM, 4x CD-ROM.

My first computer was an old Tandy PC1000. I'm pretty sure it was an 8086 8MHz, 512M RAM, and duel 360k drives. This was mid 1996 :P I got a few other little machines between then, and finally got an AMD K6-2 333MHz around 1998.

Yeah, it's Pentium I then, I got it on November 1995. Payed for it around $2000  ...Well, my parents did.

My second one was:

AMD Duron 800 MHz
ATI Radeon 9000 128 MB 128-bit DirectX 8
128 MB SDRAM PC133
Some Mercury mobo
Some crappy 400W PSU
Same 14" CRT

I dont know many specs on it, but from what i remember it was something like this:

Pentium 100-166Mhz (no heatsink or fan, had to use housefan to keep it cool :P)
16-32MB RAM ?
Windows 98
4-8MB Video Card ?

I really cant remember anything else, since i was like 8 and i didnt know anything about computers.

Awwwwwwwful was AMD's Duron line. Talk about "boat anchors" I skipped rght over that line for the Atholons. Never did get a Thunderbird when the jump was made. Those were noted for the OC routine.

My original is in my sig... heck, i could run Total Annihilation at 800*600 quite laggily on it. Twas fun to take apart.

Celeron 600 MHz
64 Mb RAM
15 GB Quantum Fireball
Intel Integrated Graphics
40X CD-ROM
Compaq
Compaq 15" CRT 1024x768@60

Then
800 MHz Pentium III
256 MB RAM
80 GB WD Caviar
ATI Radeon 7000
52x32x52 CD-RW
48X CD-ROM
Same Compaq Monitor
Then the one currently in my sig.

Amiga 500 gaming rig
1MB memory

and

486 @ 25MHz
4MB EDO (later 16MB which was max supported IIRC)
120MB HD IIRC
9600 baud modem like 45min to transfer a jpg :P

And a whole bunch of other stuff.

I hope you were generous enough to donate that one to a shipping yard. That's one of the infamous anchors there. :P

First computer I used (grand-dad owned it)

EAGLE

Cpu: Intel 8080
speed: 4mhz
Ram: 64kb
OS: CP/M 86

First computer in my house (parents Computer)

486

Cpu: Intel 80486SX
speed: 33mhz
Ram: 8mb
Os: Dos/windows 3.2/windows 95 (Even after upgrading too 95 I spent most of my time in DOS)

First computer I bought with my own money

Athlon 850mhz

Cpu: Athlon "B" 850mhz Thunderbird
Speed: 850mhz
Ram: 128/256
OS: windows 98/windows 2000

Sadly, I still have my first computer... Just been upgrading it slightly.

I really didn't mind it until I started getting into computers (a year ago?)

Once Conroe comes out, this ancient artifact is going on ebay!

Family's First Computer
300mhz AMD K6-2
64MB RAM
6GB HDD
2MB Video Memory
Windows 98...

and its still in use today with 160MB RAM and a 40GB Hard Drive with Xp Pro.

My first PC was a Digital Venturis FX 5133. Pentium I @ 133MHz, with a whopping 32MB of ram, a 1.2GB HD, ISA soundcard, NEC CD-ROM. I added 64MB of RAM for a total of 96MB, put in a Creative PCI 16 soundcard, an AOpen 24x CD-RW, and put in a 4.3GB HD. NEC 15" monitor, and runs Win95. It was my "daily driver" until 2004!

Now it's my backup PC that still works fine, if a bit slow. It's in the basement for when this main box goes on the blink.
