What will make a bigger difference?

i want to do something to get my sound better. what will make a bigger impact on the sound: speakers or sound card? i have a soundmax integrated card right now with dell's stock speakers. thanks.

sound card is always first, it wont make as much as a difference as if you were to go with speakers, but you have to do things in the right order.....you dont hook up $300 speakers to onboard sound

if your sound has a digital output (S/PDIF) connect that to an av reciever then to your speakers (either 2 channels or 5.1) that will give you a great sound. so come to think of it doesnt matter what sound you got as long you have a digital output that supports digital sound. but its always good to have a decent sound card that supports all those formats i.e. 5.1

If you have good speakers then you need a good sound card and if you have a good sound card then you need good speakers. The sound will only sound as good as the worst part of the setup so you need a mix of the two.
