I hate 3rd party apps, the less of them the better. Especially for stuff that should be built in. Command line...no, not for me, haha. I prefer the visual stuff, just text and commands give me headaches. I would describe myself as a power user, but I also do computer repairs for people (which undoubtedly leads to trying to explain how to do simple tasks..) so when I see features that will hopefully make it easier for the computer challenged people I jump for joy, less explaining for me. You wouldn't believe how many times I get a customer bitching about how they use Vista so obviously what they want to do won't work(or it's not the same or whathaveyou)...but then I show them how to do it in less than 10 seconds (usually easier than XP) and then look at the complete change in attitude. "Oh, well how do you do this? Well thats easy!" I don't know why..but some people suck at learning new things...I suspect mostly to do with they simply don't even try

And yes, you are correct. A lot of people will still stick to XP...mainly because they've been using it for years and don't want to switch. Thats just a personality trait..me and a few others embrace change...we love the new features, looks, and improvements. I certainly don't mind having a few things moved around...especially when it makes things more streamlined.

My whole job revolves around making the end user experience better while managing the systems at the same time. You are preaching to the choir there.

My main issue with Win7 is that I have Vista Ultimate on my PC now. I took the plunge for DX10, otherwise I would have stuck with XP Pro. Now, I think I have fixed my issues with Vista for the most part, and that application enhancer which was going om nom nom nom to my RAM like it was candy. Now if I want to upgrade to Windows7 Ultimate, I have to buy Win 7 Pro, install it, then pay an additional fee for the Ultimate update. Asinine if you ask me, and way too much DRM.

If I chose to upgrade to Win 7 Home I am actually down grading my features. Probably no remote desktop or domain support. I actually teach myself server products at home in my spare time, so I need domain level support. Now, if I go pro it will cost me more money and if I go ultimate it will cost me even more and installing all that crap will be a nightmare.

So, I will stick with Vista for now. Maybe bug my MS rep for a free copy of Win 7 Ultimate.

I'm definitely not liking the sounds of the different versions....PLEASE be changed before release!!!!

Maybe I should send a bunch of feedbacks, lol
"No 5 different SKUs! Bad MS! Make it easier to buy than Vista, not harder, I beg you!"

Well only two versions are available to public consumers, Win7 home and win7 professional. I agree there should only be one version in my mind

Which ever version I can get for free.

Though after Vista's publicity failure my old mans friend might not be buying Windows 7 installs since it didn't sell super well at his shop.

So if he does buy and I can snag a copy I want win7 professional...but I wont be crying if he doesn't get it. I won't be spending 500-600 bucks on a OS....Vista suits me just fine.
