What would cause an LCD monitor to whine?

I've got his old HP vs17e that I fixed (caps) and have been using for a while. Within the last couple of weeks, it's started giving off a high pitched whine similar to what you'd hear from a big CRT television. It's loud, too...I have to either use headphones or my musician's earplugs if I'm sitting in front of it. There's no massive coil in there, though, so I have no idea what's causing it. Anyone have experience on the matter? Or a way to fix it if I can find it?

All I can figure out is to open it up and put some sort of heat-resistant adhesive on everything wrapped with copper, which really is not the most elegant solution....

Maybe it just needs a good clean inside? It could be a build up of dust that is trapped causing the issue. Just an idea, hope it is of help.

If the whine is related to brightness and disappears when the monitor is at full brightness you can keep the monitor at full brightness and adjust the level with your graphic card settings. Described here. I suggest if it works that you save the setting in the graphic software with a new name eg "Monitor whine removal". That makes it easy to switch between normal and crappy monitors!

Not related to brightness, no, though I did notice that it doesn't happen when the monitor is cold. That mean anything? Google is failing me...

It's fairly clean inside :/

Upgrade your headphones to noise-cancelling? Can you take it apart and locate where the noise is coming from? Unfortunately a monitor is a good sounding board. Perhaps there is some way of damping the offending part - either by adding material (non-conducting tape, putty) or clamping. Sound absorbing material strategically placed may help - high frequencies are much easier to attenuate than low. Does touching the component or board help (beware your static)?

The cold monitor issue probably does not help. If some component starts vibrating when hot, you have to cool it down or damp the vibration/noise. Neither is easy.
