So i used to be pretty handy, and it's slowly coming back to me, but i was wondering what you all had in mind as far as setting up a home WAN.
Here's the situation:
3 computers and 1 printer. What products or software or both would you all recommend?

Just throwing it out there to see if i'm still with the times or not!

Welcome to the forums!!

And, LOL at Shady! haha

On topic: I don't know, Im kinda in the same situation...

Can you say something that makes any sense?

I understand what he is asking.. Did I miss something?

Personally I would grab a wireless/wired router (best of both worlds) and maybe a range extendor if needed. They also have routers with build in printer servers, or you can get one that plugs into the router. Either way it is going to be an easy setup.

Modem--->Router--
---Connection1Wired--->Printer server
---Connection2Wired/Wireless--->Computer1
---Connection3Wired/Wireless--->Computer2
---Connection3Wired/Wireless--->Computer3

Is that it?
And it is a LAN (Local Area Network), a WAN is a Wide Area Network (The internet). So your LAN would connect your computers to the WAN.

That's why it didn't make sense to me :)

Myates82, welcome to the forums!!

As mentioned, setting yourself up a home workgroup would probably work best for you and have several benefits, such as file and printer sharing. Feel free to ask questions you may have as you go through the process, (just ignore the few on here that try to show off) and we will get you up and going.

It's OK if you don't know the proper term for everything, I think we are all on here to learn.

Keep us updated and let us know how it goes.
