Faster Dual Core Processor or a slower quad core processor, post in the poll and a reply on why you voted for that.

For gaming get the Dual. I am assuming you are looking at either the Q6600 or the E8400. I have both and I used the E8400 for my gaming rig. The Q6600 is now in my gameserver.

Get the Quad core, because in the future more games and apps will be able to use all four cores, eventually making the Quad cores leaps and bounds ahead of the dual cores in terms of performance.

I hate when people use this to retort. Realistically are you going to still have that slow 2.4ghz quad core 2-3 years from now? Here is the thing yes in theory it sounds good BUT....When the games that ACTUALLY use more than 2 cores come out and are considered mainstream your 2.4ghz quad will be bottom rung.

The E8400 or E8500 is your best bet. And STAY AWAY from the AMD Tri-cores.

You need a "all of the above" selection on there......Supposedly the intel cpu drop happens tommorrow and you can pick up a Q9650,(just as fast as the e8400 but with 4 cores like the Q6600 and with more cache :)

Sorry but i dont really understand why u posted this thread when you just go on to answer your own question...

Anyway i would go C2D for the same reason as houseofbugs.

there was a thread with a question about this, so i thought i would start a thread and see what people would get :P

i would go quad. i dont care about future proofing. but with my q6600 its not like im heaps disappointed with its performance in games...
its an all round beauty haha you can overclock a quad heaps anyway. so its not like it matters in the end.

If a quad were well utilized, then it would definitely be the way to go, but from my understanding, no programs really utilize a quad core, and so it rarely makes any difference having extra cores. For most peoples use at least, maybe not for professionals.
