irrelevant...price performace point will be roughly the same at a given budget
non of the pople here really multi task enough to stress 2 cores let alone 4...word to the wise, playing music, working on a word document, surfing the net and chatting on msn at the same time does NOT equal a heavy multitasker, nor infact even a light one. There are no games that need guad cores and by the time there are the quad core you have will be crap anyway.

So in all honesty, at a given price point it doesnt really matter.

I had the Q6600 and I now have the E8400. Granted my Q6600 was an overclocking beast, generally I'd take a faster dual-core.

Id take the quad core, more apps are going to start coming out and are going to be optimized for multi core cpu's, besides, you can just oc em:P

The overclocking argument is sort of irrelevant since dual cores overclock also, generally better than quad cores.

It seems like the idea of having a quad core is very appealing, but the actual gain of four cores is null over 2. Sort of like getting 8GB of RAM for gaming.

Givin the fact that there are hardly any applications that can utilize a quad core. A faster dual core will be better, generally for gaming.

faster dual core. cheaper and better for overclocking on air cooling. more performance per dollar for the applications i generally use.

oh.. and another good thing is that it uses less power (i think? haha)
