hey
i had about 200 dollars to spend at comp usa, and only at compusa(i hate store credit). i wanted to buy a cpu and motherboard for about 200 dollars, maybe a little more than that cause i have a friend that works there and can get me a discount on the cpu and motherboard, i already have ram and the case and hardrives and cd drives/dvd drives, video card and psu. i wanted the fastest cpu for the money, but at the same time wanted a good mobo, (if possible i wanted dualcore) any suggestions?
thanks

If you want motherboard suggestions we need to know what TYPE of RAM you have. I mean I have some RAM too. Some PC100 and some PC2100 ;)

lol sorry about that
i have a stick of 512mb pc3200
and a stick of 256mb pc2700
i have a crappy nvidia mx 4000 it is regular pci im not a big gamer
just need to do some video editing and a lot of multitasking

You might be able to get the Pentium D 805 paired up with a decent lga 775 motherboard, that would be the absolute cheapest dualcore you can get.

Looking on their website you might be able to get an Athlon 64 of some sort and a motherboard. Can you go over a little bit?

Woops... Socket 939 and AM2 wouldn't work *^^* Hmm... It doesn't look like you could get a Socket 939 board and processor for under $200...

cool thanx
but how does the pentium D stack up against the amd 3800 dualcore or the amd 4200 dualcore
i have some headroom..it doesnt have to come out to 200 exaclty

thanks for the help

If you have a little extra to spend, then why not check the price difference between Comp USA (not my favorite place), and say, Newegg, and try to get the best $200 store value for one of the components at comp usa, and then buy the other from Newegg. Something like the processor at comp usa, and the mobo at Newegg. Might work out.

well the only reason why i have the headroom is because of my friend working there, dont really have the option of buying from anywhere else.
i wish i could buy from newegg, but im stuck with store credit cause i bought some stuff from compusa and decided to return it, and realized i can only get store credit and NOT a full refund. this cpu and mobo is the last thing im ever going to buy from compusa.
