what XP games are compatible on Windows 7?

I got a laptop running Windows 7 & was wondering if these games were 7 compatible:

The Sims 1
Sim City 3000
Sim City 4

Some games go from Windows 95 2000 & XP as far as compatibility goes but I got The Sims 2 to work on my Windows 7 laptop with no problems & it says on the back of the case of The Sims 2 that it works on 95 through XP. Are the games I listed above compatible with 7?

They should be. There aren't many games that can't be played on windows 7. If you install them and they don't work then you can try using compatibility mode when installing. The games only noted those operating systems because the newer OS's weren't out yet.

The Sims works fine, as I still have it and install it on occasion. The other two should also still work.

I currently play Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004 ACOF) in Windows 7 64. I even got the RealityXP gauges to work which they said they wouldn't. If that was the case I'd still have XP 64 on the desktop. FS2004 is my main game and it currently weighs in at 50 GB. Here's me flying my customized cockpit F-22 Raptor into my own built Area 51 KXTA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SQpIEyR81I

I have to share this one. I like the soundtrack I picked and this plane is awesome for short hopes state to state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQvYoUoBwWg

Then there's a day in a life of me, a sim pilot. LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz5S2HWtAT8

I also have Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour installed on the laptop running Win 7 32 bit. Since Game Spy took down their servers you have to use a utility called C&C Online. http://cnc-online.net/

Then there is Battlefield 2 with the AIX mod on the desktop. But once again Game Spy shut down that server too. To play go here and edit your host file. http://www.qtracker.com/master-gamespy.php

Me in AIX. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x62V8tCHOig

I have yet to find out how to play BF2142 when Game Spy shut down that server.

All of the compatibility issues I've discovered were because of the 64bit architecture. Most of the games I played on XP 32bit worked on 7 64bit, but there were a few titles that complained that they could not install on a 64bit system.

Some games I couldn't get to work on Windows 7 64bit:

  • Think X
  • Marble Drop
  • Act of War (there is a way to get this to work, but the game will not go full screen on high def displays)
  • Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars (this would not work on a German version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. When I purchased and installed a Dell OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit multi-lingual version, then the game installed and loaded as it should.)

Thanks for all the info. I guess this goes to show how awesome 7 still is. I've heard allot of older games wont work on Windows 8 because of the compatibility issues it was having with older software. One of many Windows 8 bugs. I guess I dodged a bullet by sticking with 7 & avoiding 8.

I'm just glad I can still run a few old games on 7 while its still supported for another 5 years. I'm still gonna keep my Windows 7 laptop when it looses support just wont be able to go online safely when that time comes.

I actually found an old Compaq Presario laptop from 2005 that still has XP on it that I'll use for the older games that can't work on 7 once I get it working again (just needs a new battery & charger) would just have to keep it disconnected from the internet because firewall support is non existent on XP now. Might upgrade the RAM to 4GB to handle games better.

Most of them run on Windows 7 and usually if they'll run on 7 then they will run on 8.1 too.

Again, I've used 8 for well over 2 years now and not had any problems with older software not working with it. Usually if it works on Vista or 7 it'll work fine on 8 too! Heck, I even tried installing Office 97 on it just for kicks once and it worked!

Wow I didn't realize 8 was that compatible with such old software. Guess the reviews for 8 I read about were of people trying to get certain games to work that couldn't work on 7 or 8. Might still wait for 10 since the release is later this year.

8 got allot of hate but 8.1 seems to be greatly improved compared to 8.

Nice F22 mod on MFSX. I used to have that game but used the last of the activation code limitations on my old XP machine which broke down a few years ago. Thinking of getting a new copy tho. Where did you get the F22 addon?

I also used to play BF2 & even had BF1942. Played 3 & 4 on PS3 which were great but wasn't the same as BF1942 or 2.

Yeah stuff that works on Vista and 7 usually works on 8/8.1 because they're based on the same kernel. Hopefully the same will be true for Windows 10 too, but because the kernel has jumped from 6.x to 10.x there might be some incompatibilities again (though hopefully not as many as there was between XP and Vista). I've tried quite a bit of software in 10 and it's all worked fine but software that checks the kernel version for a 6.x kernel and doesn't check beyond 6.x when it's installing, eg Microsoft Virtual PC, won't install on 10.x builds of Windows 10 because it thinks it's an unsupported OS.

I didn't say FSX I said FS2004. I do have FSX though. The F-22 is from Alphasim and I don't think it's avalable anymore. It might work in FSX, but some planes from FS2004 don't. I customized the cockpit with third party gauges that weren't part of the original Alphasim model.

Looks like it's a lot of freeware now. They do in fact have the F-22 for FSX. I wonder now if that is what I used in FS2004. The F-1117 Nighthawk and B-2 Bomber are good planes. I have the Blackhawk helicopter as well. Can't remember if my V-22 is from Alphasim or not. The SR-71 might not be what I have as it has very good life-like gauges. http://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/

Nice! Wish MFS2004 already included most of those aircraft like the blackbird & V22 as flyable vehicles. I noticed they were only static vehicles in some of the missions.

I was thinking of getting a C130 addon after I get a copy of MFS2004.

Wouldn't it be cool if they made a new updated MFS with real HD graphics & with more military aircraft? like the level of graphics we see in 8th gen game consoles. Seriously tho, as awesome as MFSX & 2004 was/is they use very dated graphics by comparison to modern mainstream games. I hope they make the next MFS with amazing HD graphics & better physics. I wouldn't mind paying $50 to $60 for a new & improved MFS game.

Wow, that was a pretty hard landing in the first video Agent Smith. I used to play FS2004 back in the day. Ran a crew called Elite Flyers. I purchased the TrackIR from naturalpoint ( http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ ) back then for flying. It really helps out in the 3d cockpit when looking around inside/outside the cockpit. Went from that to COD4, then Arma 2 and now Arma 3 with Epoch mod.

Yeah, I made that video after not playing for some time and I was rusty. But that aircraft is a bitch to land just right, it will always bounce. I may adjust the shocks. I'm still trying to find the right air speed with the amount of fuel on board to make a good soft landing. I do all my testing at that airport I built, Area 51.

Had a TrackIR, but when I looked down it would mess up. I just sold it. There's a free trackIR called Freetrack.
