$300 for a monitor... what do you think I should get? I might be able to squeeze out $350 but $300 is what i'm looking for.

I do lots of gaming so I want it to be best at video shots. DVDs, video games, etc...

Is it still better to stay CRT or is LCD just as good these days?

I have a 19" Mistubishi Diamondtron monitor right now but when I give my brother the current computer I use... I want to give him the monitor as well.

Should I keep the 19" CRT? Or should I make the transfer into a LCD? I like Widescreens a lot too. :-)
 
I would either save up for a while and get a higher bugect for a LCD, OR just get a CRT.

[for a LCD]Since you are a gaming and such you are going to DEFINATLY want a low MS responce time or you will experance ghosting. Definatly under 8ms, 5ms or under should be fine. You are probally going to want at least 1:600 contrast and preferably 1:700 or above, but thats up to you.

If you want to get higher then 1280x1024 reslautions then your definatly going to want to save up more money or get a CRT. LCD's resalutions are less for for the size compared to CRT's most of the time.

What do you think of the monitors linked in this thread? The $300 one has 8ms but 600 contrast.

I kinda want to save space but I am wondering how much of a difference I will really notice going with the CRT. I mean... when do the specs just not matter anymore? When do you stop noticing the differences? haha

I have no problems going with the CRT but only if it is that much better. A New LCD would really be the icing on top of an awesome cake.
 
These days LCD monitors are just as good as CRTs, both of the monitors suggested would be a great pick. BTW, do you want a widescreen monitor or fullscreen? I would suggest widescreen, but it is up to you.

EDIT: Oh ya, as Arm_Pit said, the resolutions on CRTs are generally higher than a LCD for the same price.

Double post? What? Who?

I want a wide screen... But neither of those monitors have at least a 5ms. I just want an excellent gaming/video monitor.
 
lets be honest, do you need something with less than 8ms response time? the answer, maybe actually, but you are gonna have to spend more money the bigger they get.

i would personally go with an LCD. as you would know CRT's are big and unwieldy

But how good are these monitors overall? I see is has low ms and thanks for the searching. But I am little ignorant in what makes a monitor good other then the contrast and ms which I just learned. haha :)

Why is this monitors specs right on point with what i'm looking for and only $300? I can't find any like this in the 300-400 range!

EDIT: What I think I learned. Is it lower the MS the better? The most expensive monitor there which is $3500 has a 16ms!

Basically you want to look for 5 things in particular in an LCD monitor

Size
Widescreen/not
Brightness (270cd/m2 and up is good, 300 generally for gaming)
Contrast (anything over 400:1 is good for everyday use, 600 and up is good for gaming
Response time (25ms is fine for everyday use, but you want generally 5ms or below for gaming, the lower the better

Things like pixel pitch, viewing angle, etc. really aren't very important because they are the same for pretty much every monitor.

i would jst a get a LCD monitor with 5ms below and they dont cost taht much i saw one for $370 i fink but i cant remember the site
