I'm looking for something cheap

- prefurabley soc 775 (with core 2 support obviously)(wouldn't mind AM2)
- onboard FX
- lots of SATA port (this is a biggy) more the merryer ..
- gigabit NIC .. or duel gigabit NIC would be nice too ..

pretty much it looking for something cheap for a file server .. any good sagestions?

just get some cheap ass mobo with gbit lan and an igp.
most of the time they have 4 sata ports
you can just add 1 or more sata controllers. aren't to expensive.

get an AMD setup, much cheaper CPU's, and it doesnt take much CPU power to run a fileserver. i have a 3600+ with a 500mhz OC and it doesnt really hold my 8800GTS back any, so i guess a stock 3600+ would suffice. any old motherboard with SATA ports will work really. just make sure its socket AM2 of course, i would go with the Asus M3A, there is another one i liked for AM2+ but i cant think of it, too tired.
