My windows 7 is all messed up...to include my browsers...every operation is super slow (cable internet)...some things won't work at all (for example, I can't get into my Hotmail box at all using IE). I used to use Malware Bytes on XP some sort of "fix it" on IE and that kept things running very nicely, but I don't have clue what to use on 7 or IE8...any ideas?

Lets start off with the following.
1.
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.
•Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
•Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
•Click on Scan.
•After the scan you will need to click on clean for it to delete the adware.
•Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
•Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
•You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com. If you are still having issues running rkill then try downloading these renamed versions of the same program.

But DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.
Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.
Vista and Windows 7 users must right click on the hijackthis icon and click on run as. If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on the icon to get it to appear.
Click Do a system scan and save a logfile
Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.
When the hijackthis log appears in a notepad file, click on the edit menu, click select all, then click on the edit menu again and click on copy. Come back to your reply and right click on your mouse and click on paste.
Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

- At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- then click Finish.
- If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
- Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
- When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
- Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Sorry, but being brief in agreement is not trolling.
If you wish to have reason for my opinion/why I agreed explained, read on. If not, don't bother, continue policing.
A user can spend hours trying to repair an infected OS only to end up with an unstable OS install and buggy registry after all the scanning and repairing. A new install of the OS and the user installed programs can take less time and the end result is a fresh, clean and stable OS.

PC Unicorn, you are the one trolling here as people can have a different opinion than yours. This is what this forum is for. You are not a mod, or even a VIP so please just make your case and let others.
Although John provides excellent and professional system restoring and virus remediation, often the result is still a less than perfect install.
And since Windows 7 32 bit ISO is available here, I cannot understand how you would think that he doesn't have that option.
Often, it is simply faster to back up data and resinstall the OS. This is the only sure way of resolving a slow, infected machine.
I think what he means is that most people might not have the software installation media anymore to reinstall some of their programs that they use. And in that sense I tend to agree with him. In general, as long as the machine isn't too badly infected, you can easily clean it up and get it back to running good fairly easily. I've already came across a few members that said they don't have the installation cd's anymore so I have to do my best to clean them up. And another thing came to mind. Another issue may be that the poster may not know how to reinstall the OS along with all the drivers. They would have to end up paying someone to do that and what if they don't have the money to do that?
Either way we do our best to get them up and running again. It all depends on their situation.
