It helps to know the model gpu because some can handle more than others.
I run my gpu at 100% and I don't like it going over 65c even though it can handle a lot more.

If it is pretty old and if you are cheap like I am I would clean the dust bunnies out like StrangleHold said and I would probably take the heatsink off and clean it and the graphic processor and apply some new Arctic Silver 5 heatsink compound.
