i tried playing severals games such as warcraft 3, maplestory, and condition zero, but there is always some problem. When i play games like maplestory, the sound always seems to make some crackling noise during gameplay and it also lags by 1-2 sec. also when i play games such as condition zero, i have to put my graphic resolution at THE LOWEST for it not to lag, and even when i do put it at the lowest, it still lags a little bit. I'm really disappointed cause my old computer that has worser specs outperforms my computer during gameplay. What do u think is my problem? Is it because my OS is a vista and the games i play are not compatible, or is it because my parts suck like my graphics/sound card?

The video card is a pretty basic model, It's an SE which means it's like a light version of that card. If you wanted ATI you should have gone with the x1950. And it only has 128 meg of ram onboard. Slow by todays standards. Can you take the system back? Maybe get a different one?

If you can get an Intel dual core machine with at least 1 gig of ram and at least a 8600 video card.

Oh, I see that you bought an HP. Sorry to hear that. My first computer back in the mid 90's was an HP, What a problem that thing was. Never bought a built computer after that, always built my own.

Crackling sound could be a driver conflict with Vista. I had the same problem in my one-night stand with Vista.

As far as the bad graphical performance, the graphics card is pretty weak..

What's todays standard for a video card? Do you think my gaming performance for all my games will increase tremendously if i updated my graphics card to a geforce 8800 GTS? (i will buy a new PSU with it).

Would you advise me to downgrade my computer to a Windows XP until all the kinks are fixed and everything becomes compatible with vista? I'm very annoyed by the crackling noises i hear. (Is it likely my sound card is causing it?)

Sound is the number one reason I switched back to XP a day after installing Vista. Then again, the problems I was having very well may be fixed now, so who knows.

Thank you very much for the help. I will most likely upgrade my graphics card and install windows XP. any other suggestions for my computer?

Whats so bad about HP? My desktop is an HP and it has been great!

Also, I've never heard of the sound problems you're experiencing in Vista. Could the sound glitches be related to the choppy video(sorry to say, but the vid card you have is crap). Try putting in a new video card and see if it fixes it. If not, try updating your sound card drivers.

In my one experience with an V6000 HP Compaq laptop, it was horrible.

Problem 1 - Integrated Wireless went out
Problem 2 - DVD-RW didnt want to open or even recognize an DVD-R
Problem 3 - Motherboard fried - wait 3 months for new one

^ Within 3 months of buying

Anyways I'm stickin to dell now.

Definitely your video card. But MAPLESTORY?? I'm pretty sure if Maplestory lags its NOT your video card. I've played it on an ATI Rage 128 Theater, an TNT2, and no probs. If your have an 56KB or 28 connection, that usually explains all.

check your internet connections. My condition zero game lags like hell around 8pm when alot of people are using internet in my apartment but it doesn't lag around 1am. So just check your connection!

Whats wrong with HP? As a person that likes to upgrade and use the same case from system to system, I say everything. Can you spell Proprietary? It's a pain to get a new motherboard for an HP, and since everything rely's on the motherboard, it is just not a system that can be upgraded. On board video cards, sound cards, bottom rung ram.

But it's not just HP I hate, it's Dell, Gateway, Hp, and all the rest of the company's that make proprietary systems.

lol my internet provider is verison DSL, i doubt my intetnet conenction is the problem. I know maplestory has such low requirments, but yet it still lags. Im nearly 90% sure that my video card is to blame for all my problems. Im considering the Evga 7600 GT. Hopefully it will fix everything. xD

The 7600gt is cheap, and can even play games like Oblivion and Stalker! (your CPU and RAM willing). Can you say: recommended?

No one knows how well any card is going to play Crysis. But from the specs the devs announced, a 7600gt should be able to play Crysis, medium settings, 1280 x 1024, in DX9 mode.
