doing a build and have to go with a wireless adapter becasue the router and cable modem is downstairs. looking at wireless adapters and want to know whats faster, a pci card or one that goes into a usb? i've got a linksys wrt54gs router. i do a lot of gaming so speed is important. obviously i'm not getting an N rated card because the router is only a G. basically, just want ot know if i should get a pci adapter or go usb for my wireless card.

thanks.

PCI, because you wont have to worry about USB 1 and USB 2.
With PCI your going directly to the motherboard.

If you are connecting at 100mbps it doesn't matter because usb 2.0 is still 480 mbps, so either way you will most likely not notice any reduction in speed, unless you are transferring files across the network using 1gbps, in which case pci would be better.

USB has a theoretical bandwidth of 60MBps.
PCI has a theoretical bandwidth of 133MBps.

PCI is faster, however even if it was slower, I would still recommend it as a wireless NIC is not going to use anywhere near the maximum bandwidth of USB or PCI, also with a PCI card there is more native support, meaning it's compatible with more applications and OS's out of the box.

Yup PCI is faster! For some reason my pc would only connect at 10mbps with usb when my line is actually 100mbps with PCI card!
