What's needed to watch a DVD on computer?

Is there any additional Hardware requirements to viewing a DVD on a computer. Both my computers have dual CD burners - and I'm wondering if it's worth adding a 25.00 DVD burner into one of the slots.

Would a DVD burner added to a 5 year old entry level Dell play a DVD movie at a viewable speed - or would I need better / newer architecture - or a Video card to work with the DVD player so that I could watch a movie on my PC.

Thanks

As long as the drive is able to read the DVD, most computers will play a standard DVD at a reasonable speed. If Windows Media Player won't play it smoothly, try VLC, it can usually play videos on really old machines at good framerates. Even a Pentium 3 can play DVDs without frame drops. If you have even a crappy dedicated gfx card, that would help as well.
