What's "singlecore" mean??

I'm reading Preator's post on CPU's and I already have questions!

What's singlecore mean? I tried "define: singlecore" in Google and nothing.

And is AMD or Intel all that there is to choose from for a CPU?
 
its just that single core or one core and, of course, dual core is 2 cores
and core is already defined in CPU 101

Well congrats for being one of the few people who read before asking ... much more common are folks who say they've read when in fact they havent ;)

Thanks! I know there's a hell of a lot to learn. It's kind of a bummer though to start at the beginning and already be confused by the "a, b, c's." lol :o
