Whats so extreme about the Extrem Edition?

Why are the Intel Extreme Edition CPUs so expensive? I was researching various Pentium D processors like the 950 and 940 and noticed the steep price difference compared to the 955 and 965 extreme. Is the FSB speed the only difference between them (800 vs. 1066 fsb)? Is that difference great enough to merit such difference in price?!? Thanks in advance.

Higher clock speeds, the higher fsb, much more customobility, they have certain features unlocked that other intels don't. Its worth it if you want the best of the best but for most people its not.

BTW Welcome to computer Forums

It also usually has a custom designed core, and on the Pentium D, it has hyperthreading enabled on each core, where all others have just dual core, or single core HT, so it makes for 4 logical processing cores.

The old EE processors had extra Cache then some P4/PD chips, higher FSB, and had HT on both cores.

If you were considering getting one of those, don't. Go with the Core 2 Duo, virtually any version of it will outperform the PEE.
