Whats the best video card for $300 or less?

I'm assuming it's for a PCI-E mobo...

If you don't mind spending a little extra, for about $350 you can get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130071

Which is an outstanding graphics card, currently second only to the 8800GTX.

If you're on a tight budget, get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814186020

The cheaper one is pretty much the same card, only it has less vRAM...while the one with higher vRAM will perform better, the lesser one will still perform better than most current cards, and in addition will be very future-proof, considering it is DX10.

I just decided to order the 8800 gtx based on I read about it. I figured it would be worth it when I want to play games and watch a movie at the same time. Thanks

Play games and watch a movie at the same time?! WHA?!?!
Why would you want to do that? And would that even work? Seems that you would only pay attention to one or the other, or miss a lot of both.

Gotta have two monitors

Sometimes I like to play music videos and I like to have access to my desktop while playing games so that I can answer email and take phone calls. The only way to do that, that I know of is with two monitors. And yes it does work. You just need more memory and a fast processor

He's not questioning whether or not it would work in terms of physically working, he's saying that it would be hard to watch a movie and play a game at the same time, while fully paying attention to both.

But why buy a DX9 card now when at some point in the upcoming future is going to be phased out and for $60 more you can have a better performing card that's going to be compatible with tomorrow's programs. I think now is the time to start holding off on the DX9 cards and going to DX10 since a $200+ 7950GT or X1950 will start becoming obsolete in a year.

That is why I think you should hold off all together, wait till the price come down for DX10 before upgrading. It should only be a few months time.

I don't pay attention to both. Since I don't have a TV I want to be able to play DVDs while playing games so my girlfriend has less to complain about.

Hmm, I don't think you can, I'm not sure about the 8800s, I know with a 7900GT, the secondary monitor shuts down when the graphics card enters into 3d mode.

I don't have a problem running some of the lower-end games and playing a DVD at the same time on separate monitors, but my graphics card is a bit slow, to say the least.

What do you think the 8800GTS is going to sell for when ATI's DX10 cards come out? I'm already impressed with the $259 after rebate...I'm considering buying one.

Well, I know here in Australia over a period of a month it (8800GTX) dropped $120 AUD. Jan 2007 it was $AUD965, and by mid Feb 2007 it went down to $AU832. The equilibrium price for high end graphics should be around $500-$750, and I mean HIGH END not entry level high end like the 7900GT was.

If you recall back to the time when DVD burners first came out, the starting price was 600 or so bucks for one, and 6 months later they can be had for less than 100 bucks. I just think for any piece of electronics, its stupid to buy on or near the release date, because the prices would most likely be rip offs. Don't get me started on the PS3, what a rip off............... I know this is off topic but to illustrate my point have a read of this article. Its really funny - "Desperate producers unashamedly asked the crowd to fake excitement when the cameras were rolling, while a team from 2Day FM (a radio station program aimed at young people) let out bogus cheers to convince their radio listeners that a launch extravaganza was underway."

Just pathetic. -_-
