Whats the difference

i notice many PSU have either 24 main atx power or the 20+4. is the 20+4 to be more compatible with older MOBOs that are only 20pin. so on a 24 pin mobo you'd have to use the 4pin with the 20 pin. Correct. plus the other 4 pin or 8 pin for the cpu power

so which would be better to buy the 24 pin or the 20+4pin if my mobo is 24 pin.

24 pin has 24 pins

20+4 has 20 pins for older mobos, + 4 pins attached for newer mobos.

24pins are for newr mobos

I wouldnt use the 4 pin for your CPU...

Use the dedicated CPU plug...

I don't think the extra 4 pin connector left over from using an older mainboard will fit in the 12V ATX connector. You would have to use the PSU lead designed for that purpose. It's pretty hard to do it wrong.

What your mean dont use the 4pin for my CPU. My mobo doesn't have a 8pin only 4pin.

would this be in order if the psu didnt come with it.

never mind i re read a article saying the 20+4 wires are universal and the 4 pin just slides and clips to the 20 pin to make it compatible wit h24
