hi, what is the differnce between the intel quad core processors. like from the q6600 to the 9550? is there much of a differnece?

There are differences in price first off; the Q6600 runs stock at 2.4GHz and costs $190 and the Q9550 runs at 2.83GHz and costs $320.

The other difference is in the archatechture. the Q6600 is the 65nm archatechture and the 9550 has has 45nm archetechture. The major difference between the archetechtures is the heat build up and over clockability. being older, the Q6600 generates more heat than the 9550. Both CPUs overclock incredably. The Q6600 is eisily overclockable to about 3.2GHz with a decent aftermarket cooler. I have not heard as much on overclocking about the 9550 but I assume it does very well to. I would not be surprised to see it hit 3.8 - 4GHz easily.

The other difference is the cache. the Q6600 has a total of 8mb while the 9550 has 12mb.

The other difference is the cores itself. The 9550 is a true fully quad core. But the Q6600 is actually 2 E6600 CPUs gluded together which in turm also mean the that the cache is separated between the 2 CPUs on the Q6600.

ok so i was planning on getting the q9550 will i be able to run crysis on high quality? il also be gettin g anvidia geforce 9800gtx

You can run crysis on high with an E8400 and Ultra high with the Q6600. If you are going to be building an Intel-based gaming computer, don't go everkill on the CPU, get something like and E8400 or Q6600 and put the rest into your graphics card(s). I think the Q6600 is a better deal than the E8400 simply for the reason you can overclock it to the E8400 speeds on all four cores without a problem.
For crying out loud, people can play Crysis on an E2180 Pentium Dual-core Overclocked to 3GHz as long as they have a high-end graphics card.

Oh yeah, and those people that play Crysis on high with an E2180 OCed to 3.0GHz also play with good framerates and high settings.

ok i kno where your coming from but i dont plan on overclocking anything. is the q6600 still the right one to get?

I have used the Q6600 and at stock settings, with two 8800GTS cards in SLI, and 2 gigs of ram and Crysis ran smoothly on highest settings 1280 by 800 (only 2x AA) at about 45 FPS. Beatiful picture and gameplay in my oppinion.
