Didn't realise how loud it was until i put it up in my room! Its a 2 year old tower pc.
Should i look at replacing the Power unit, Cooling fan or case 1st?
I cant tell which is worse, What would you're guess be?

Take some fans out and boot. I don' mean boot and use it for a bit, i mean boot the system with only the CPU and PSU fan. see if it is loud.

Add 1 fan at a time. If one is really loud, take it off and try another, see if it is only that one.

Also consider that case fans generally vibrate the case, especially on side panels because thye are fairly thin. This doesn't create noise, but it dosn't dampen the noise of the fan so it can be quite loud.

Most the time stock cooler for the CPU and case fans are the loudest.

One way to lower the sound is to cut the grill off the case for the fan to allow limited air flow from being blocked.

The loudest thing in my PC is my hard-drive....can't hear anything else on my Antec 900 with it on top of my desk.

getting a set of good case fans with a "5.25 fan controller wont go a miss...

i got individual case fans on my antec 1200 and i have them on low all time, i just crank them up when im gaming and it does the trick.

always leave them on low when pc is running over night

but my ati 4850 is by far the loudest fan in my rig, jesus that thing can spin

Stick your finger into each fan and stop them and see how much quieter the computer gets. Generally the stock CPU cooler is very loud, followed by some case fans. Also, what size fans does your case use?

Another way to find out is to put an empty paper towel tube up to your ear and move the other end toward the fans. That's how I found out that my loudest fan is the PSU and not the CPU. The case fans are nearly silent.

I'm with ovenmaster on this one. Most of the time the loudest fan in yur computer is the psu.

Thanks for all the great advice guys! :good:
I should be getting my new cpu and custom cooler soon so that should help!
P.s could i really stop 1 of the fans with my finger?

If you don't want to stick your finger in the blades, you can apply pressure to the center hub and it'll stop too.
