Whats the range on this optical mouse/keyboard combo?

Hey guys, newbie first post :)

Anyways. I've got the Microsoft Wireless Elite Mouse/Keyboard combo. It worked great on my desktop that I had, but I've decided to hook the CPU up to the plasma screen hung on my wall. The problem is, when i go to sit on the couch and relax, either this thing has no range at all, or i'm messing something up. i can literally only get 2 feet away before it starts acting up. I would like to know if i'm doing something wrong, or if there is a setup that has a much further range. I need a good 15-20 ft. of space between the keyboard/mouse and the connecting device. I want it to work flawlessly, and not act up any. Is my setup possible to work this distance, and I don't have it sequenced right, or does this keyboard/mouse just not have what it takes to go that distance? If not, what keyboard/mouse set-up does? Thanks very much!
 
I take it that you have had this combo kit for awhile... So I would try changing the batteries in the kit to see if that helps with the range issue at all. It should work pretty well between 10 to 15 feet, probably even 20. Personally, I had an old wireless optical mouse that had a range of at least 10 feet, which was a Microsoft as well. The only other suggestion I would have would be to get the receiver by the computer as close to you as possible...
