I went to download ubuntu from one of the university sites and it gave "1 day" to download. Is there a quicker way. I mean 1 day to download. What is going on? that's crazy.

Here's the link: http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download
It gives you many download locations, please choose a location closest to you
The download is ~700Meg; so even high speed will take a little while, say 20mins or so
I suspect you need to try another download location, or a higher speed Internet service (ie don't use Dial-Up :D)

well the download link you posted is the same place that you find the university download, but it could have been goin slow due to network traffic, on your end or their end, meaning you were downloading other things, or they just had alot of people try to access their network. Also its gunna depend on your current internet connection, i have 3mb and it takes under an hr for me.

That's good feedback Gooberman
Actually, wouldn't it be bad if someone actually did do this, and got to 59Hrs and then the connection was lost !
Now I know you can get download managers and all, but in my view: Order it free on CD: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ Much better off, and the CD I believe is good quality (ie stamped not written exactly) and longer lasting ;)

60 hour download or up to 10 week delivery time... Hmmm... :P I might have to request one anyway just for a nice copy of it.

Back to chrisfreez; have you tried any other servers/mirrors? I can normally download in around an hour given a good connection.
