What's this beep mean?

Well just tried turning on my HTPC for the first time and all I'm getting is a beep noise from the internal speaker. Seems to be on for four seconds then off for four seconds. Can't say I didn't expect any issues, but any ideas what the issue could be?

It powers on initially, then turns off and about 5 seconds later turns on again and stays on but its still beeping. Nothing to the monitor yet.

Nope, seems to be looooooooooooong stop looooooooooooong stop

What would long first beep mean? The fantastic manual for the mobo skipped that section...

I actually just had the hard drive unplugged by accident and turned it on and got the same beep which makes me think at least the hdd is ok.

3 long beeps is a keyboard error, but try and pull the graphics card and see what you get then.

If its 1 long and one short its your Mobo, can you get into bios?

I know its not the video card because Im borrowing it from my main system. The mobo is the foxconn 915PL7AE-8S.

I suppose it could be the keyboard because im trying to use the wireless one from my main system. Would it not boot correctly since it might not recognize it?

I just left it on for longer than I had been and the beeps dont stop after three. Im looking to see if i can round up a different keyboard to try

This is several long beeps though, same thing? Just tried different keyboard and that didnt change anything. I tried swaping both pieces of to no avail so maybe they are both bad. Ill a stick from another system and get back to you, thanks! brb

It means that your internal speaker is working. :P

Anyway, all joking aside, it sounds like some sort of memory error. If you say you get the same issue with both sticks of RAM it could be an issue with your northbridge or RAM sockets.

Well arent you guys just the smartest on the block! It was the RAM :P Thats what I get for cutting corners and buying garbage ram of of ebay. Thanks guys! :D

Well all considered, everything else in this system is used and 85% came from ebay without any issues. The processor, mobo, PSU and heatsink were all good finds. I just went TOO cheap on the ram, 1gig for $20 shipped, I shoulda known :P

By the way, the error may be due to keyboard or Ram.. So check your ram, remove it, and reinstall it. And then see..
It should give only one beep not 3 or more beeps.<hr>
