Whats with this dual core

because its underclocked a ton "2.66GHz"
yes, thats slower than the slowest single core processor out there. basically its the worst gaming processor you can get. only get it if you are doing processor intensive apps... probly o/cs some but its still 90nm so not too much :-\
basically an athlon 64 at 1.8ghz is better than that, by a long shot.
orrr... a P4 3.0ghz

woah!! that is crazy!!

yea, for gaming it is better by a long shot. don't get these whiners goin again lol. "wahh wahh pentium 4 chips dont suck wahh wahh"
lol...

P4 chips don't suck...Nor do they blow :P

No one will contest that AMD is better at gaming but look at the bigger picture. Does +30FPS matter when the minium is never under 100 (or even 85 really). All it does is gives you bragging rights. Just because you like AMD so much doesn't mean someone looking for an inexpensive dual core set up should be told to get an Athlon 64 X2 because it 'pwns' Pentium Ds.

Yes with what's out there Athlons are better in performance but that's not enough to recommend them. You also have to look at the price and the needs of the person asking. It's foolish to put an X2 4800 in an internet machine.

Also when you say it's still a 90nm, so is everything AMD has on the market.

They also have some 130nm chips :P

@ fade2green: So you cant say there hot just because there 90nm.

I didn't say they were hot, in fact I didn't mention temperature at all :P

I was simply countering the arguement that the product in question wont OC well (vs an AMD chip) because it's 90nm

Noo, i wasnt referring to you. I was referring to what fade2green said.

ah, well I probably skimmed over where he said anything about heat then (aside from the first post about it being 90nm)

FPS is frames per second...basically I will use a movie to exemplify...a video is just a bunch of still pictures being played one after another...these still pictures are called frames....if say 2 frames are played each second...you will notice picture..........picture.

But if its at say 23 (Standard) you will see picturepicturepicturepicture and won't even be able to notice really. 23.9 I believe is used on DVD's...and after 60 or so it is EXTREMELY hard for the human eye to distinguish.

more fps = faster gaming = less lagging.

= athlon 64 > Pentium D :P
depnding on the game... quake 4, COD2, and most future games will be better on Pentium D, but the Athlon will be faster for most games now and old games...

29.970?

we've already established that.
my processor >>>>>> Pentium D

dude stop being such an ass, that's not the point. did you even listen to what the other guys said? he's not asking about performance, he's asking why it's so cheap. probably should have asked him what he needed it for or what he does with his PC before bashing everything intel. Besides, it seems like (especially in the above post) that you just want to tear down other cpus to make yourself feel better about your own. there's no need for that, and you're acting quite immature about the whole thing.

anyway...

yeah. that's what i thought too. 30fps is smooth in video but isnt that smooth in games, most likely because you are controlling it in games.
