This is really annoying me my computer is randomly shutting down programs when your in them like games or something it just exits without any warning or anything. Its also restarting whenever it feels like, like ill be looking on the net or just using a program on the comp and it just restarts. It is also coming up with an error or something when on the net, it freezes and comes up that thing where you click send error report or don't send, I forget what it says on the actual thing when it comes up.

Do I have a virus or what? I'm using AVG and its not coming up with anything when it finishes (thats if it finishes because the comp restarts nearlly everytime I try and use it).

So what do I do?

First off, what are the specs on the system?

You can run CCleaner, run virus/spyware scans, defrag, and clean up the start up list (start/run/msconfig/startup)

If that doesn't help or fix it, a fresh install of windows may help.

Done all the stuff except the fresh install of windows don't know anything about computers so I don't really know the specs and how to install windows properly won't that erase everythig on the comp?

Yes a fresh install of windows will erase everything, just backup your data.
you will still have to reinstall all your programs/games.

Download Belarc Advisor, run that and it will tell you your specs.

Random shutdowns aren't just caused by viruses or other malware.
Other reasons include:

*Failing power supply
*Defective or overheating RAM
*CPU overheating
*Graphic card overheating

I just upgraded the RAM so would that be the problem because not long after I did it it started doing all this?

Specs that I can find:

2.6ghz processor
1GB ddr RAM
Motherboard: SG72(SIS 661FX-964L)
Graphics: AGP version 3

Try it out

1. Just run any antivirus, anitspam.
2. Clean disk using Disk Cleanup in the Disk properties.
3. Check Errors in the Disk properties(Tools tab)

If still gives problem then,
Repair XP using your XP cd.

makes your PC fresh.

Put the old RAM back in and see if the problem happens again. If the problem goes away, your new RAM is the culprit.

That may very well be the problem (ram), what type of ram is it? you can try removing the ram and switching slots between the DIMMs, insure they are seated properly.

this could be a variety of many things, video card overheating, some bad ram in the computer, hard drive failure, the list goes on and on
if you are convinced that this is a software problem, before formatting and reinstalling windows (i am assuming you are running windows xp or vista) make sure you have all the latest updates for the pc - check windows update

start>windows update and download and install all available updates.

you can also try right clicking on computer>preferences>hardware>device manager and right click on the video card, and check for updates drivers. Do this for all hardware to insure you are running the latest version of the drivers.

if that does not work try windows restore start->programs>system tools>system restore and try restoring to a previous date, perhaps a date where your system was functioning properly.

Alternatively, try a defrag program other than the built in windows defraging software (which absolutely sucks), I recommend PerfectDisk8 which can defrag the system upon startup for a much more thorough defrag.

Go to the BIOS and check your opertating temperatures. It could also be an case of malfuntcioning memory.
