When do you see the Price of an SSD coming down?

I want to get an SSD but even the 30/32 GB ones are $69.99 - $80.00
I Want one big enough to load my games onto (So something thats like 80GB or More) Because I will be gaming, using Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After effects. I need a lot of space.
 
I guess when they refine the technology or find a cheaper way to mass produce them.

Just look at LCD/Plasma TV's... when they came out they were like $5000, now you can find really good ones for below $1000
 
They have actually started going down in price already here in the UK with alot of Deals going on,Not by all that much though (Maybe £7-£15 off) for a short period of time then they go back up again.

But like Linkin said,eventually they they will go down in price when they have been out some time,But i doubt it will be just yet,especially if your after one of the larger SSDs such as the 128Gbs...i think they will stay pricey for quite a while!

I would get a 60GB over a 32, but yes, that is how most people do it, they have a smaller SSD for their OS and a handful of programs that they use often, and everything else that doesn't need the extra speed sits on a larger storage drive. When you said about RPMs, a 6400RPM will work just as well, it doesn't need to be quick or have ultra fast retrieval times if all it is doing is getting files and music and such

For the prices, I can see them very slowly coming down. I mean now you can get them for $2 per GB (still just over £2 per GB here), which is hella expensive compared to hard drives, but is much much less than when they first came out

What Should games go onto?
I'm just wondering what the performance of a 7200RPM SATA 3 hard drive would be compared to a SATA 2 SSD
 
The price will come down when it becomes cheaper to make high density NAND chips. Demand will also grow when mechanical hard disks become more and more of a bottleneck to other hardware.

I don't get why everyone complains about SSD prices. Comparing I/O's per watt, I/O's per dollar, and total cost of ownership, SSD's are a far better value than any mechanical HDD ever could be.

If you're looking for a cheap SSD, you're in the wrong market. I would suggest going with a fast HDD. If GB's per dollar is the main concern you can rule out SSD's for a long, long time.

you dont have to wait a "long long time", price are droping like crazy now.give it a year or so and they will be as cheap as regular hdd's.

Yes, prices for SSD's are dropping... but not nearly as fast as prices are dropping for mechanical drives. The reason prices are dropping for SSD's is because of the transition from NOR to SLC NAND to the now current MLC NAND. Which is still expensive. Raw material prices are dropping, but manufacturing costs are still high. I wouldn't expect SSDs to be mainstream storage for at least another 5 years. Even then mechanical drives will yield more GB per dollar for long after.
