When i press the power button on my monitor it says vga no signal then says monitor going to sleep

I just attempted to install a new graphics card, it is an AMD R5 240.
I disabled the onboard graphics and then i installed it, when i plug my DVI cable into my monitor/graphics card, i am brought to a message that says VGA + DVI NO SIGNAL and my monitor just goes to sleep.

Are you sure you plugged it into the video card? A lot of people make this mistake. If so, then you can probably assume either video card isn't all the way in the slot or card is bad.

im sure i plugged it into the right slot, i even tried plugging it into the mobo and it did the same thing
 
Try reinserting the video card and make sure its in the slot all the way. The video card slot could be bad too.
